ObserMe and Daylio
A Daylio alternative that asks you
Daylio is a well-loved mood diary: you pick how you feel and what you did, in two taps. ObserMe comes at the same goal from the other side. You write the questions, and it asks them during the day.
The main difference
In Daylio, you open the app and make an entry: a mood, a few activities, maybe a note or a photo. In ObserMe, the app comes to you. Each question has its own rhythm, at a set time like a habit, or at random moments a few times a day, and you answer from the notification.
Random moments matter for things that change during the day, like mood, where you are or who you’re with. An evening entry tells you how the day felt in hindsight; a few random answers tell you how it actually went. The method has a name, experience sampling.
Where Daylio does more
- Notes, writing templates, photos and voice memos alongside each entry.
- Year in Pixels, goals and achievements.
- Custom moods, icons and color themes.
- Android as well as iPhone, and PDF or CSV export.
If you want a diary with a mood attached, Daylio is a very good one.
Where ObserMe is different
- Your own questions, each with its own answer type: yes or no, a number, a 1–5 scale, one choice, or a few tags.
- Questions at random moments within hours you choose, not only one entry per day.
- Answers straight from the notification, usually in a few seconds.
- No streaks, badges or points. A missed day is just a day without an answer.
- Reports for a week, a month, chosen days or the whole year.
Good to know before you switch
- ObserMe is for iPhone and iPad only.
- It needs an account (email and password) and stores answers on our servers, so they survive a new phone. The privacy policy explains how.
- There’s no import from Daylio. You can export your own answers as JSON at any time.
- It’s free for now, with no ads.
ObserMe isn’t affiliated with Daylio. Details about Daylio come from its website and were checked in October 2026. Also compared: Exist and Reporter.
